Please note that we will be meeting the third Saturday morning of the month January - May 2023 at the Wharves of Choptank Visitor & Heritage Center, 3 Crouse Park Lane, Denton, MD.

Saturday, January 21, 2023 – Program.  9 am – 11 am. Gabriel Foley, MD State Bird Atlas Coordinator:  Breeding Bird Atlas Update and Strategies for Year Four.

Sunday, February 26, 2023 – Basic Bird Walk at Tuckahoe State Park. Bill Scudder and Debby Bennett, leaders.  Meet at the boat ramp parking lot at 8 am.  Good for beginners learning to identify birds and breeding bird behavior and how to use Merlin and ebird apps.  Dress appropriately and bring binoculars and your smart phone if you have one.  

Saturday, March 18, 2023 – Program.  9 am – 11 am.  Wayne Bell, Presenter. “30% Fewer Birds in North America: Lost from Maryland’s Eastern Shore?”

, 301 Deep Shore Road, Denton (just before you get to Martinak State Park).  Leaders:  Robin Lahnemann and Debby Bennett.  Park and meet by the pavilion at 8 am.  The pavilion  is on the left hand side as you are going down the lane before you get to the main campus area.

Rich Downs: Update on his work with white terns  in Hawaii, and Spring/Summer 2023 atlasing in Caroline County, including an overview of the updated app to help atlasers focus their efforts on targeted species.  Location: Wharves of Choptank Visitor & Heritage Center, 3 Crouse Park Lane, Denton, MD

Caroline County Bird Club Fall 2022 Schedule as of 7-15-2022

NOTE revisions 

Please note that our Fall 2022 meetings have been moved from the third Thursday evening of the month. Meetings will be combined with a bird walk or program at different locations, mostly on the 2nd Saturday morning of the month. We are hoping this works better with people’s schedules and believe it will be more fun!

All our events are free and open to the public, except the Adkins Arboretum event we are joining. 

If you would like to become a member or need to renew, the Maryland Ornithological Society’s dues plus our $5 local dues are:  Individual $25.00; Household $30.00.  With  your membership, you will also receive the MOS newsletter, THE YELLOWTHROAT.  For those age 18 or younger, the cost is only $10.00. 

If at all possible, please register or renew your  membership online at the MOS website https://mdbirds.org/join/. At the website, you will be able to choose the Caroline County Chapter as your local chapter.

A paper form is also available to fill out and mail in your dues to the MOS Treasurer.

Saturday, Sept 10, 2022. Meeting & Bird Walk.  We will be joining the annual Adkins Arboretum Fall Bird Migration Walk lead by Wayne Bell 8 am – 10 am.  Members of Adkins Arboretum and Caroline County residents free. Tuesday, September 13, 2022. The Talbot County Bird Club has invited the Caroline County Bird Club to their meeting. Their speaker will be George Radcliff, who has written an engaging book about his grandfather.  7 pm at the Easton YMCA.

Sunday, Oct 9, 2022.  Caroline’s Big Sit and meeting.  Location:  Adkins Arboretum’s Wetlands Overlook near the Visitors Center. Will run from 7:30 am to early evening for some owling. Dress comfortably, bring your binoculars, a chair to sit on, food and drink. We will consider this our monthly meeting for October and hold a brief business meeting at 10 am.

Saturday, October 22, 2022. Hawk Watch at Cape Henlopen. Rich Downs, Leader. Meet at the south end of the Lewes - Cape May Ferry parking lot at 9 am to carpool in to the park.

Saturday, Nov 12, 2022. Meeting & tour of Tuckahoe State Park’s Scales & Tales Aviary.  Meet at the aviary at 9 am.  Park Headquarters and Aviary: 12282 Eveland Road, Ridgely MD.   A brief business meeting will follow.

Working on a Fall 2022 schedule.... stay tuned!

 The Caroline County Bird Club needs to find an alternate meeting location for Sept 2022 - May 2023 due to renovations at the Caroline County Public Library, Denton.  

We are taking the opportunity to try Saturday mornings and a variety of locations.

As soon as the fall schedule is set, it will be posted here.
